I am currently embarking on a kind of project that I’ve tried to do once or twice in years past – writing a novel. Those previous attempts were doomed to failure because I was unprepared from both a story perspective and in terms of having a productive workflow. As I learned from my screenwriting experience between then and now, sitting down in front do a blank word processor does not work for me. Now my main problem is finding blocks of time to sit and write.

As I make admittedly slow progress, I’ve been contemplating whether or not I’ve been spreading myself too thin in terms of how many artistic disciplines I’ve been pursuing. Notwithstanding variety being the spice of life and all, I think I’ve become unfocused regarding where I need to be putting my attention professionally. The more I think about it, the more I want to focus on what got me into filmmaking in the first place – storytelling. What this means from a motion picture production standpoint is a return to the trifecta of writing, directing and editing, and a move away from videography in particular. I’ll still shoot video but I’m not going to put as much effort into seeking out videography work. It also means that I’m going to be expanding my writing activities to include projects like the aforementioned novel and more screenplays.

I know I’ve been saying for years now that a “writings” section was coming to the website soon, but with the new focus on writing I’ll be researching publishing and distribution methods to make my work available.

In the near term, expect to see some new video projects up early next year and hopefully new music as well.
