NAB 2017: Day 0

April 23, 2017 / Stephen Inniss / Blog

I’ve arrived in Las Vegas for the 2017 NAB Show. I had planned to make a video talking about the things I’m excited to check out on the show floor, but after a full week of work, a long day of prep yesterday, and a few hours on a cramped airplane, I’m just too damn tired. But I want to do at least a little bit of a write-up.

Tomorrow, I’ll be hanging out quite a bit at the Canon booth, learning about the C700, which seems like a pretty exciting camera from what I’ve seen online. It’ll be interesting to see how they plan to differentiate themselves in a market that’s pretty well locked up by Arri and Red.

I’m also going to try to make it to the Aputure booth, since I’ve heard good things about their LED lighting gear, and after a couple of years of shooting under 500W incandescents and dealing with the heat, power draw, short life of the bulbs, I’m really interested in making the move to LED. I’ve also been watching a fair amount of the Cinematography Database YouTube channel, and DP Matt Workman is giving a few presentations that seem pretty cool.

And finally, I’ll probably be spending a good amount of time at the Adobe booth over the course of the show. While Premiere is no longer my primary NLE, they always have a great mix of tutorials and case studies, and I do like to stay on top of what’s new in the latest editing tools.

I’ll be posting updates on Instagram @dramatic_purp and on Twitter @dramaticpurp, write-ups here on the site, and will put together at least one video recap at the end of the show (more frequently if I can – these weeks do prove exhausting).

Don’t hesitate to hit me up if you any questions that I might be able to answer, or find the answer to. I’m looking forward to sharing my NAB experience with you.
